Jamiel reluctantly showed up at the weekly Books4buddies creative writing (pilot program) early on Saturday mornings at Birmingham Terrace. He had little interest interest in reading and writing until he met Dr. John S. Scott., Emeritus chair at BGSU. Dr Scott said: I got this!"
In May, 2019, Jamiel, the 11 year old attended the Claire's Day program at the University of Toledo. He his teacher nominated him being the most improved reader.
Jamiel attended the program and was given a certificate as the most improved reader. Jamiel has improved his reading so much that now he's on the honor role. His mother believes the creative reading program sparked an interest and now he reads for joy.
